Call of Duty: World at War (X360)

"I was hesitant to leave behind the trappings of modern warfare, but this looks solid - and the bonus Nazi zombie survival mode? Hell yeah."

Champions Online (X360)

"Looking forward to this, an action-y MMOG on the 360. Really liked CoH, so will try this out even if it's merely CoH 2.0 -- but may well be more."

Left 4 Dead (PC)

"Very eager to give this multiplayer game a try. It really sounds like a good teamwork based game, with asymmetric sides and kickass theme."

Mirror's Edge

"I love running and jumping in 1st person in games (Superleap in CoH was the best ability evar)... an entire game based on parkour? Sign me up."

Star Wars Galaxies (PC)

"The original game was shoved out the door prematurely by SOE. Awesome crafting system, classless skill development, thematic stuff like entertainers, etc. but flawed. Each change made the game worse."

Characters:

Jirel Killjoy, Human Elder Carbineer — She was a Carbineer / Master Artisan / Armorsmith / Chef, back before the "combat upgrade" nerfed her into a level 0 fighter. Sigh.

Starsiege: Tribes (PC)

"Tribes and Tribes 2 are among the very best multiplayer FPS ever. The energy pack isn't just a gimmick - it adds an entire momentum/energy management aspect to movement and combat. Clan-based CTF!"

Team Fortress 2 (PC)

"Cool retro art direction, great classes, tons of fun to play."

The Wheel of Time (PC)

"Didn't play this all that long, but it had a lot of great features. I like the uneven factions, the RP elements such as being branded a Darkfriend, etc. Poisoned wells, assassinations, and other fun."

Travian (WEB)

"Another empire-building game, but this one has no controls against farming lowbies, so no matter how long you played and grew, you'd frequently be taken out by bigger players or guilds."

World of Warcraft (PC-MAC)

"Hard to overpraise WoW. Some of the best hybrid classes ever in an MMOG, the best new tank, tons of content, great art direction, and so damn accessible. It deserves its success."

Characters:

Bourne, Level 51 Gnome Warlock — The warlock is one of the most fun classes ever, heh. This was my group toon, played almost exclusively with my wife's warlock and friend's priest. You can do a lot with 2 warlocks and a priest :)

Nikolai, Level 51 Gnome Mage — My little battleground mage, 100% frost and +dmg before either were popular, had a ton of fun with him in the 49 BGs and soloing hard quests.

Tamari, Level 61 Night Elf Druid — So much fun, especially doing cool things with my balance druid before they got all the love and got popular.

Age of Empires (PC)

"This was my first RTS and I had a lot of fun with it. One grip I had was that the different civs weren't really different - they just had different stats/bonuses and colors."

Anarchy Online (PC)

"I probably didn't give this game long to impress me. Though not the most important part of a game, the graphics felt primitive. The real problem, though, was that it didn't seem very accessible."

Archmage ()

"My first turn-based web-based empire building game. Had a lot of fun with it for a few lives, created a spreadsheet for my first few hundred turns, tweaking, etc."

Baldur's Gate (PC)

"I liked this but never finished it (I rarely finish long adventure games any more). My computer could barely run it once spell effects and multiple party members were on the screen, heh."

Chron-X (PC)

"My first (THE first?) online collectible game. The gameplay was actually pretty good and the collection tools were nice. Not sure why it died out - ahead of its time?"

City of Heroes (PC)

"The first "fast-paced" MMOG I think. You really feel like a superhero right from the start. The costume/character options were unmatched and fun, and fighting/effects were superb."

Diablo (PC)

"The grand-daddy king of isometric action RPGs. Good stuff."

Diablo II (PC)

"A worthy successor to Diablo and another fantastic game in its own right."

Diablo III (PC)

"Oh hell yeah. Can't wait for this."

Earth and Beyond (PC)

"I got into late beta for this. I liked customizing my ship, and the graphics/art direction were solid, but the gameplay was pedestrian and the lack of a meaningful avatar was really non-immersive."

EVE: Online (PC-MAC)

"Never played it, but based on reading I'm almost positive I would love it. I'm also positive I don't have enough time to really get into it, so I'm staying away for now, heh."

Gods and Heroes (C64)

"Got into closed beta. The idea of each player having his own squad of NPCs was interesting and could have been a lot of fun. Early on it did not feel that revolutionary, however, and then it died."

Halo 2 (XBOX)

"A solid enough game but did not enjoy it as much as Halo and never finished the campaign (nor played online)."

Halo: Combat Evolved (PC)

"The first game rocked my world. The Xbox was my first console since the 2600, on my new 32" TV and home theatre system. The atmosphere, audio, graphics and action in Halo were top notch."

Mass Effect (X360)

"I've borrowed a friend's copy but haven't played yet -- too much COD4 and WAR."

Neverwinter Nights (PC)

"Bought this and the expansions just to do some world-building with friends (barely started the campaign, heh). It was pretty cool and really showed what a game with player content could become."

PlanetSide (PC)

"The first FPS MMOG? Although not without flaws, it's a great online shooter. I may start up again if they have free play (PlanetSide Reserves?)."

Portal (PC)

"Wow, got this in my Orange Box for the 360 and was blown away. A pitch-perfect story, simple yet mind-bending puzzles - so much fun."

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (DS)

"THIS is how you make a puzzle game even more addicting - by wrapping an RPG game around it. I'm looking forward to the sequels."

Shadowbane (PC-MAC)

"I was anticipating this for its character diversity and PvP model, but then never got around to trying it out. Is it even still around?"

Shadowrun (SNES)

"Ignoring the Shadowrun IP whiners, this was a great FPS. Good graphics and fun, varied gameplay. I don't even mind lack of single-player for it."

The Chronicles of Spellborn (PC)

"Not sure if I'll ever try this out, but I was looking forward to it because of the skill wheel combat system they described. It feels very "game-like" to me, which is appealing."

Dark Age of Camelot (PC)

Characters:

Herzog Derheilige, Level 50 Briton Paladin — Ah, the original sword-n-board, king of PvE tank. Good times, good times.

Jirel Killjoy, Level 43 Saracen Infiltrator — She never even made it to 50 and she was already kicking ass. Killing orange and red Middies in DF or slinking through the frontier. Good stuff.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (PC)

"Not revolutionary, but evolutionary in many great ways, some small and some big. Very solid game that I'm hooked on right now. I really missed DAoC's RVR model and am loving it in WAR."

Server: Chaos Wastes

Characters:

Lochaber, Level 16 Dwarf Ironbreaker — Best tank class ever? He's got the DAoC style shield defense, tons of armor, lots of wounds, and can still put up high numbers in scenarios. <3

Lysana, Level 11 High Elf Archmage — What an interesting class. First you work to be a good healer, then there's the whole added dimension of being able to contribute DPS and how they synergize via the High Magic accumulation. She's a lot of fun in RvR.

Assassin's Creed (PS3)

"Really enjoy this, but only got a couple chapters in when my 360 got the RoD. By the time I got it back I was onto COD4 and haven't played AC since, heh."

Bioshock (PC)

"Awesome game. Very thematic and engrossing story, wrapped around a basic FPS."

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC)

"Among the finest FPS ever. The campaign is short but brilliantly executed, tense and gripping. Multiplayer online is fantastic - so balanced, with many options for both play style and game type. I still play it periodically even though I'm hooked on "
